September 11-15: : The past two weeks we have been busy getting to know each other and learning the rules and routines of the classroom. This week we started with the letter: Tt and the sight words: I., a. We have been counting and writing numbers up to 10.
Next week our new letters will be: Bb, Ff. Our new sight words will be: the, in. We will be learning about patterns and position words in math. In ELA our theme will be: nursery rhymes. October 2 - 6: We had our first "Garden Time" this week. We will have a garden lesson once a month for the entire school year. The kids were able to explore the school garden and sample some peppers and carrots! Next week our new letters will be: Cc, Oo. Our sight words will be: and, go. Our fun theme will be fire safety. In science we will begin forces and interactions (pushes and pulls). Kids should wear red or a firehouse shirt on Friday, October 13th. No school on Monday, October 9th. Have a nice long weekend!

Our sight words will be: on, am, get. Our fun theme will be nocturnal animals. We will continue with sorting and numbers 1-10 in math.. We will also continue with pushes and pulls in science.

Kindergarten will be having a STEM day on Thursday, October 26th. Kids are allowed to wear pajamas to school. We will spend our morning doing Science, Technology, Engineering and Math activities! October 23-27: We had so much fun at STEM day! We spend the morning doing activities in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math :) We also painted pumpkins that will be sent home this weekend. Next week our new letters will be: Ee, Rr. Our new sight words will be: have. In math we will be working on numbers to 10 and weight. For the next few weeks in social studies we will be learning about Native Americans, Pilgrims and Thanksgiving. Our fun theme will be Dinosaurs. Have a wonderful weekend :)
October 30 -November 3: Next week our new letters will be: Pp, Jj. Our new sight words will be: my, see, we. In math we are working on numbers 1-10, weight and counting to 100 by 10's and 1's. In social studies we are learning all about the Native Americans. Next week there is no school for students on Tuesday for Election Day and no school on Friday for Veteran's Day. Have a nice weekend!
November 6-9: Next week our new sight words will be: all, do, good. Our new letters will be: Ll, Hh. In math we are continuing with numbers to 10 and weight. We will also continue to learn about the Native Americans, Pilgrims and the first Thanksgiving. We will be giving our second sight word test on Tuesday and Wednesday. Please be sure to practice sight words each night. There is no school tomorrow in recognition of Veterans' Day. Report card conferences are scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, November 20 and 21. These will also be half days for students. Please be on time for your appointment. Have a fantastic, long weekend! And if you are a Veteran, thank yoiu for your service :)
November 13-17: Next week our new sight word will be: like. We will not have any new topics. We have half days of school November 20 and 21 for Caregiver/Teacher conferences. Dismissal for students is at 11:35. Please be on time for your appointment. We only have 15 minutes, and our appoints run back to back. We hope you have a relaxing Thanksgiving with family and friends!
November 27 - December 1: This week we finished up with weight and 3D shapes in math. We tasted pumpkin seeds at Garden TIme. Next week we will begin our social studies unit of Holiday and Traditions. We will begin with Hanukkah. Don't forget to email me a picture of how you celebrate the winter holidays. Our new letters will be: Vv, Ww. Our new sight words are: love, little, big. We will begin addition and subtraction to 5 in math. Don't forget to send in a bag lunch from home on Friday for our field trip to the Bardavon. They will also need a snack for later in the afternoon. Have a nice weekend!
December 4-8: We had fun this week learning all about Hanukkah! Next week our new letters will be: Yy, Xx. Our new sight words are: yes, no, for. We will continue to learn about holidays and traditions and addition and subtraction to five in math. Keep sending in those holiday pictures. Have a good weekend :) We also met with Mrs. Sylvester's class for the first time today. They will be our "buddy class" for the rest of the school year. And we had an awesome time at the Nutcracker. AND we had a surprise ending to our day. Hudson's dad has been deployed and came back to see him!! It was a super exciting day!!
December 11-15: Next week our new sight words are: did, he, me. Our new letters will be: Qq, Zz. In math we will be working with flat shapes and addition. We will continue with pattern writing in ELA. Don't forget to study for our sight word test. Have a great weekend!

January 3 - 5: This week was a review week. For the next 3 weeks we will be assessing the children for upcoming report cards in February. We will be sending the computers home next week as soon as we are done with the iReady testing. Our next sight word test is scheduled for the week of January 22nd. We are sending home a list of all of the current sight words today so that you can practice with your child. Our new sight words for next week are: play, some, down. There is a half day for students on Friday, January 12th, and no school on Monday January 15th in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Have a great weekend. Wish for snow :)

March 4 - 8: We have been very busy learning about changes that happen in Spring. We have researching Dr. Seuss and have been reading a lot of Dr. Seuss books. Next week we will practice the digraph TH in ELA and continue with CVC words and opinion writing. We will finish up maps and globes in social studies. Our fun theme will be St. Patrick's Day. Our next sight word test will be the week of March 18th.
March 11 - 18: Next week our new sight words will be: say, say. We will be reviewing the digraph SH. We will be finishing up Unit 4 in math (numbers to 10 and shapes). And we will begin the 5 senses in Science. We had a guest reader (Khalil's mom) come in to teach us about Ramadan. We also had a third grade student come in to do a presentation on Ramadan. And, we met with our 2nd grade buddy class to play rhyming bingo! Open House is Wednesday, March 20th, from 6:00 - 7:30. Have a great weekend!
